Joseph Harris Selected as a “Top 40 Under 40” Labor and Employment Lawyer

Joseph Harris has been selected by the American Society of Legal Advocates (“ASLA”) as a “Top 40 Under 40” labor and employment lawyer for the State of New York for 2019. ASLA selects lawyers who combine stellar legal credentials with a proven commitment to community engagement, leadership, and the highest professional standards. Membership comprises less than 1.5% of all licensed lawyers nationwide. The selection process is conducted manually by attorneys and selections are made without regard to whether a lawyer chooses to join ASLA.

Joseph Harris speaks to law students at the Fordham University School of Law about some of the wage-hour pitfalls that most commonly affect start-ups, including failure to recognize that salaried employees may still be entitled to overtime, misclassification of employees as “contractors,” the New York Wage Theft Prevention Act and its notice and pay stub requirements and penalties, and the concept of “suffered or permitted to work” under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Joseph Harris presents “Overtime and #MeToo: The Two Greatest Employment Law Risks For Growing Companies,” to the Strategic Steps for Growth Program (SS4G) at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.  SS4G It is an executive business education program designed for Minority-and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE), as well as media, entertainment, and technology firms, that want to grow their business.  SS4G is presented in collaboration with the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Citi Community Development, the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business’ W.R. Berkley Innovation Lab, and the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business’ Entertainment, Media and Technology Program.  Joseph Harris and Evan White have been honored to serve as SS4G’s Guest Lecturers on Employment Law since 2011.
